'Seaside House' is a Grade B Listed Georgian house in the Fife village of Aberdour, with an outstanding outlook over the Firth of Forth to Edinburgh.
A full refurbishment of the existing house, adjusting the layout and improving the environmental performance, was completed in 2020. A careful restoration and reinstatment of original decorative features and finishes was undertaken as part of these works.
Planning and Listed Building Consent has been secured (October 2022), for a new extension set at the lower garden level. This new space has been designed to be able to open-up to a series of sheltered patios and terraces, with views towards the sea and the city beyond. The extension has been conceived as vaulted structure providing an open ‘portico’ at the base of the villa, with dark copper and oak cladding and a planted roof, presenting a cubic form that respects the geometry and character of the existing house. The south facade of the extension is entirely glazed with doors that can be opened to allow the sounds and smells of the sea to be enjoyed. A new roof terrace also provides an outdoor sitting area, accessible directly from the Upper Ground Floor kitchen/ dining space, with external steps linking to the garden level.
